Want to know more about how to defend yourself from fraud crimes? Philip Averbuck has successfully defended victims of fraud for years and has the expertise you need to protect your interests.

Tip #1: Monitor Your Email Inbox Closely

All of us receive spam emails constantly, and you should have a spam filter up and running on any email account that you have. The main reason behind this precaution is that you are able to list all of the sources that you know are secure and legitimate, and that you want to receive emails from, including friends and family. One of the largest fraud crimes in use today is identity theft, and one way that thieves are able to get hold of your personal information is through phishing, the practice of sending bogus emails asking for financial and personal information. No one, from your bank, credit card company or even government offices will just send you an email requesting that you verify personal information. If you get these, delete them immediately.

Tip #2: Monitor Your Mail Delivery and Trash

Another way that dedicated thieves can get their hands on your personal information in order to perpetrate identity fraud is through stealing your mail, or going through your trash. Be mindful of when your mail is delivered daily, and be sure to not leave it sit in the mailbox for long. If you go out of town, stop delivery, period. When it is time to toss old bills and other sensitive documents, shred them into the smallest pieces possible, so that no one can read them and use them to ruin you financially.

Tip #3: Make Electronic Purchases from Trusted Sources Only

Cyber crimes are also prevalent on many of the popular auction and sales sites, such as Ebay and Craigslist. It is too easy these days to commit fraud crimes through the Internet by offering items for sale, getting paid, and never delivering the goods. If you are participating in an auction, check their reputation on that site. And, only use sites that have “https:” in their link, this indicates that the site you are visiting is secure from hacking and fraud.
